E-Fuels Demonstration

The objective of the E-fuel project was to demonstrate the production of paraffinic e-fuels through the FT synthesis.

The demonstrations encompass CO2 capture, hydrogen production, and fuel synthesis.

CarbonReUse played a crucial role in the overall production chain of this demonstration as a supplier for the CO2 capture process.

Carbonreuse

Keravan Energia

In this test, CarbonReUse captured CO2 from Keravan Energia’s flue gases and purified it for the synthetic methanation process, which was conducted on-site. Our product CO2 gas was of high purity and suitable for further processing.

UPM

In the autumn of 2020, CarbonReUse (CRUF) began testing membrane technology for carbon capture at XAMK Fiber Laboratory in Savonlinna. In the winter of 2021, the tests were carried out at the Pääskylahti power plant in Savonlinna. The goal was to evaluate the membrane’s ability to remove nitrogen from the flue gas stream and enrich the CO2 concentration, while assessing its durability in handling flue gas particles. In these tests we obtained valuable results.

Pulp Mill

Carbon capture tests were conducted at a pulp mill from November 23 to November 27, 2020. CarbonReUse process tested with the CO2 sourced from a flue gas side stream of the lime kiln. Gas streams and product gas were analyzed by an external consultant. The product CO2 concentration was measured at over 95% by Eurofins.

BECCU Project VTT

In the BECCU project, three different CO2 capture technologies, including CarbonReUse’s enhanced water scrubbing process, were tested and compared. The tests were conducted between August and October 2020 using synthetic gas mixtures, biogenic flue gases, and raw biogas at VTT’s facilities.

The CarbonReUse technology was tested with CO2 concentrations of 15% and 30%. The results showed CO2 capture rates of up to 86%, with product gas CO2 purity reaching 98.3%. The technology demonstrated high performance, especially in environments with high CO2 concentrations, and offers a chemical-free solution for a wide range of applications.

Nordkalk Lime Factory

From May 7 to July 4, 2018, CarbonReUse piloted CO2 capture at Nordkalk’s Louhi lime factory. The objective was to assess the suitability of lime kiln flue gas for CO2 capture. During the pilot, the flue gas contained 25% CO2, making it suitable for the process, with a final product gas purity of > 95% CO2.

Additionally, the project explored commercial applications for the captured CO2, including the production of chemicals such as methanol. CarbonReUse also tested other equipment onsite during the pilot phase, demonstrating the system’s versatility.

Carbonreuse

Suur-Savon Sähkö

Carbon2reuse tested its CO2 capture technology at the Suur-Savon Sähkö power plant in 2017.

The purpose of the test was to evaluate the technology in a real industrial environment.

The results of the test were excellent.
